What do you do when you’re not pole dancing (work/school/hobbies?)?
I am an Academic Director at a private school, downtown Toronto. I am super passionate about education and pole dancing. I am also married and I have a feisty 4 year old little girl. My life is busy and I love it!
How did you first discover pole dancing?
I wanted to try something new and exciting. I was googling dance classes in my area and Brass Vixens pole studio popped up. I thought “ohhhhhh that looks like fun”. Let’s give it a try! BEST DECISION EVER!!!
Do you have any previous dance, fitness or sports experience?
Growing up I always loved dancing. I dabbled with a few different genres over the years, including Irish dancing, line dancing and hip-hop. However, it had been years since I was inside a dance studio.
What made you feel pole dancing could be for you and decide to try it?
Everyone that knows me really well, knows I love to dance. If I am comfortable around you. I am for sure going to just break out and bust some moves LOL…. I thought pole dancing would push me out of my comfort zone. I wanted a challenge. So I arrived at Brass Vixens to try a class.
How did you come to be a member at Brass Vixens?
I found Brass Vixens online.
What were your first impressions?
I loved the sense of community within the studio. Hailey made me feel so welcome, I was so nervous attending that day. My first class was with Yana, she is an incredible instructor. She was so encouraging and explained the importance of safety when learning moves. I remember going home with a huge smile on my face. I was hooked!
What keeps you committed to pole dancing?
Noticing the changes in my body, discovering my strength and seeing progression. I am so proud of what I have achieved so far.
What do you feel is a crucial element for a successful class experience?
Patience, patience, patience. Be easy on yourself. It can take time to master some moves. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. We all fall on our ass at some point. Pick yourself up and try again
What has been an exciting moment for you on your pole journey?
Getting my first helicopter and my pole sisters cheering for me. I have made some incredible friends through Brass vixens.
Do you have any pole goals you’re working towards?
Ahhhhh the list is endless. I have just started inversions, there are so many different variations that I want to learn. Also I really want to work hard at my flexibility in the coming months. Who doesn’t want to get their spilts….
How has pole dancing and taking classes at Brass Vixens affected the rest of your life and sense of self?
Taking classes has giving me a boost of confidence. It has pushed me out of my comfort zone and I apply it to my daily life. I have developed a strong bond with my instructors and fellow dancers. I feel like I have a second family at Brass. As I am relatively new to Canada, this is very important to me.
What are you favourite classes and why?
I attend a variety of classes. I love ass class. It is grueling but so worth it. The changes in my body are awesome! I enjoy Pole and inversions, always learning new combos, spins and tricks. I have a new found love for Lyra. It is so beautiful and it is helping to build my upper body strength, this also helps me master moves faster when pole dancing. Win/Win situation
